Toyota Prius Hybrid MPV 7 Seater – Alpha
Toyota is due to release a 7 seater hybrid car in 2011 across Europe. It will be available in the UK from 2012. The model will carry the name Toyota Prius Alpha. Industry sources speculate that it will be launched at the annual Geneva Motor Show.
Hybrid 7 Seater (Alpha) – Purchase Price
The price for the Toyota Prius MPV Alpha 7 seater has not yet been officially released by Toyota. It is likely to be higher than that of the current 5 seater Toyota Prius, which costs between £20,000 and £25,000.
Hybrid 7 Seater (Alpha) – Running Costs
Service and MOT costs can at this stage only be estimated. Taking the Toyota Prius as a benchmark, the expected costs for a full service are somewhat higher than £195 (£230 for a full service plus MOT). An interim service for a Toyota Prius costs £130 (£165 for an interim service plus MOT). The cost for a MOT with a 1-year guarantee for a 5 seater Toyota Prius is £59. A MOT with a 3-year guarantee is £119. It is advisable to wait for the launch of the Toyota Prius MPV Alpha before checking exact service and MOT costs, as they may be different from the above.
Hybrid 7 Seater (Alpha) – Emissions and Car Tax Band (VED)
As with the price and servicing costs, the CO2 emissions level of the Toyota Prius MPV Alpha is not yet known. As a benchmark, the 5 seater Toyota Prius CO2 mass emission (combined) is 89g/km. This CO2 emission level is exceptionally low. It puts the Toyota Prius 5 seater in car tax band A. In the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 tax years, cars with tax band status A have zero cost. The Toyota Prius MPV Alpha, should it have CO2 emissions levels of 100g/km or less, will fall in the same tax band. Car tax bands B and C (101-110 and 111-120g/km) carry a cost of £20 and £30 respectively in the 2010/2011 tax year.
Hybrid 7 Seater (Alpha) – Miles Per Gallon
The urban miles per gallon of the regular Toyota Prius and the Toyota Prius MPV Alpha will likely achieve miles per gallon not far removed from this 72.4; the extra miles per gallon is 76.4 and the combined miles per gallon cycle is 72.4.
Hybrid 7 Seater (Alpha) – Extras
Toyota is well known for the technological sophistication of its cars. The Toyota Prius MPV Alpha is not likely to diverge from this reputation. The extras that come with the car are not known yet, but will likely include many technically sophisticated driver and passenger aids.
Hybrid 7 Seater (Alpha) – Safety Features
As with the extras, safety features are likely to be technologically driven. The Toyota Prius 5 seater, to give an idea of likely safety features of the 7 seater car, has a full set of airbags, vehicle stability control and child seat fixings. The speed of the 7 seater is not known.
Hybrid 7 Seater (Alpha) – Insurance Group
In terms of insurance groups, the latest Toyota Prius 5 seater is in insurance groups 6-7.
Hybrid 7 Seater (Alpha) – Conclusion
The original Toyota Prius has been a very popular car brand. It is a hybrid electric car launched globally in 2001. It is known as one of the greenest cars on the road today. The Toyota Prius MPV Alpha 7 seater will carry the same green credentials, and fill a valuable gap in the Car industry with it’s eco-green seven seat Prius Alpha.
